| Philippine President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo To Address The Fifth Asean 100 Leadership Forum On 15-16 October 2008 In Manila |

The ASEAN 100 Leadership Forum, a rotating annual event by Asia Inc Forum, will be held for the fifth time in Manila, Philippines on 15-16 October 2008.
The Forum is an interactive and thought-provoking gathering of the best and brightest among the next wave of Southeast Asian leaders who will shape the future of ASEAN. This meeting of minds focuses on open discussion and debate on key issues and challenges and where ASEAN is headed.
The 2008 Forum will bring together more than 200 leaders from business, government and civil society from around ASEAN under the theme “The Challenge of Leadership in Turbulent Times.”
President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo of the Philippines has confirmed as this year’s Guest of Honour, to deliver the Opening Keynote Address and engage in dialogue with the Forum. In addition, confirmed distinguished speakers include H.E. Shaukat Aziz, former Prime Minister of Pakistan; Tan Sri Dato Azman Mokhtar, Managing Director, Khazanah Nasional, Malaysia; Dr. Surin Pitsuwan, ASEAN’s Secretary General. Deputy Prime Minister Dato Sri Najib of Malaysia and Senator Manuel Roxas II of the Philippine Senate have also been invited to share their views and lead discussions at the Forum.
Top business leaders from around ASEAN confirmed todate include Tessie Sy-Coson, Vice Chairman, SM Investments Corporation, Philippines; Chairul Tanjung, Chairman, Para Group, Indonesia; Datuk Vinod Sekhar, President and Group Chief Executive, The Petra Group, Malaysia; Tan Sri Dato Dr Lim Wee Chai, Chairman, Top Glove Corporation, Malaysia; Teera Na-Wangkanai, Managing Director, Wangkanai Group, Thailand; Patrick Chong, Managing Director, Luxasia, Singapore; and Dr Nguyen Thanh Hung, Chairman, Sovico Group, Vietnam.
At the Forum, they will be joined by many respected key leaders from government, highly successful entrepreneurs, top business figures, acclaimed faculty and prominent members of civil society.
The Forum begins with Dinner and Dialogue with President Arroyo on the theme “The Resurgence of the Philippine Economy: Present and Future Prospects.”
It will be followed on the next day by spirited discussions on key issues including “Changing Politics and the Politics of Change”, “Competition in a Flatter World: What Does It Mean for ASEAN?”, “Economic Stewardship in Turbulent Times: How Can Leaders Cope with Rapid Change?”.
This year’s ASEAN Debate centers on the Motion: “The ASEAN Charter is too little and too late in a rapidly changing world.” It will begin with a scene-setting address, followed by opening statements and rebuttals by four ASEAN 100 leaders, ending with an open forum discussion and an open vote on the Motion.
Discussions will also cover key areas of energy security, global warming, democratic politics and economic policy, Muslim Southeast Asia, and the challenge of innovation and technology in ASEAN.
The Forum concludes with a special briefing on the “US Presidential Elections and What ASEAN Can Expect from America’s New Leader”.
