The Asean 100 Leadership Forum 2006, a rotating annual event by Asia Inc Forum, was held for the third time in Jakarta, Indonesia from August 23 till 24.
The forum is an interactive and thought provoking meeting of minds of one hundred of Southeast Asia's most promising next generation leaders from businesses, governments and civil sector, who are important to the future of Asean. The forum engages new and emerging leaders in open discussion and debate on key regional issues and challenges, as well as where Asean is headed from their perspective.
This year's forum brought together over 200 Southeast Asian leaders from seven Asean economies, under the theme "Securing Southeast Asia's Place in the World", to discuss and debate Asean's approach to regional integration, the global economy and renewed focus on Asia, democracy and business, anticipating and responding to crises, the impact of continued re-emergence of China and India and sustaining economic reforms. It also explored what these issues mean for business and politics within the region.
Included was a Dinner & Dialogue with President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono of Indonesia. In his address "Transforming Indonesia: What Lies Ahead and the Implications for Asean", President Yudhoyono stressed nine key points in Indonesia's reformation. Later he engaged in a question and answer session with delegates.
Other distinguished players included Vice President Jusuf Kalla of Indonesia, Nobel Peace Prize recipient Prime Minister Dr Jose Ramos-Horta of Timor-Leste, and Hon. Manuel Roxas II of the Philippine Senate.
